Leaked specs claim Google has Nexus 5 in the works

The next Google Nexus phone, possibly the Nexus 5, may feature some ‘revolutionary’ camera technology courtesy of Nikon, reports claim.

According to Phonearena’s unnamed sources Google is working on a handset with 5-inch 1080p display and powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 processor with 2GB of RAM.

The device will feature options for 8GB or 16GB of onboard storage and a sizeable 3140mAh battery.

Mention is made of there being ‘off screen’ touch sensors, suggesting some kind of bezel touch interaction.

Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie is pegged as the operating system , so we might see this phone at Google I/O in May 2013.

The camera will allegedly carry Nikon branding and feature a ‘triple camera sensor’ which will apparently lead to imaging capability that will be the main selling point of the phone. The tipster claimed the current test module is ‘better than everything else’ presumably implying all current phones on the market.

Earlier in the March, Google’s senior vice president of engineering stated on Google + that the company is ‘committed to making Nexus phones insanely great cameras,’ adding: ‘Just you wait and see.’

What isn’t clear is how this ties-in with the rumoured Motorola-made ‘X Phone’, which may or may not also have Nexus branding.

This device, Nexus or not, is pegged to be the star of Google I/O.

Very little is known about this device at present but it’s said to be the result of very close co-operation between Motorola and its parent company Google.

Interestingly, the source for the Nexus 5 specs also claims Google is working on a Nexus 10.2 device, presumably a tablet, which will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 chip, but that’s all the info they divulged on that one at the moment.
