Apple’s iPhone 5S will launch alongside the company’s new-look iOS 7 on June 20, according to reports.
The iPhone 5S will remain largely unchanged from 2012's iPhone 5, but it will feature a new processor and some new imaging technology, according to Macotakara - the Japanese Apple Blog behind this latest rumour.
Once launched on June 20, Apple’s iPhone 5S is expected to get a release date during the first week of July.
Expected to feature Apple’s new A7 processor, an upgraded camera and a fingerprint chip under the Home button for improved security, the iPhone 5S represents yet another incremental update from the world’s most profitable mobile phone company.
iOS 7, an updated version of Apple’s iPhone and iPad OS will also be either previewed or launched at the event, according to the report.
Apple’s Sir Jony Ive has been heading up iOS’s facelift division since 2012 and we’re more than a little excited to see what the Knighted Industrial Designer has come up with. Reports suggest iOS 7 will be stark and simpler.
Macotakara also claims Apple will also release a low-cost version of its iPhone, a device aimed at attacking emerging markets like India and China. The device is not referred to by name but the report suggests it will get a release date in August.
So what does all this mean (if it turns out to be true)? Three things, in our opinion:
- The iPhone 5S will be to the iPhone 5 what the iPhone 4S was to the iPhone 4, something which we’re going to assume will make execs at Google, Samsung, and HTC very happy indeed.
- We will get a new potentially better-looking version of iOS 7.
- And, finally, Apple will launch an iPhone that everybody can afford.
More news as we get it.
Oh, and Happy Easter!
