We look at the best features on the new Samsung Galaxy S4

Samsung’s Galaxy S4 is finally here, so we take a look at some of its best features.

Camera

‘Dual Camera’ lets you take simultaneous photos and videos using both the rear and front cameras, the setup allows you to choose from a range of effects to combine the two pictures and create a ‘collage’ of small and large images

‘Dual Video’ function means you can use the same tech to make and receive group video calls with your friends and family.

‘Story Album’ allows you to curate content including memos, location data and photos and videos, you can then create a photo album which is personalised around your own timeline.

‘Drama Shot’ allows you to capture up to 100 images in multishot mode and see all the best pictures in one continuous time-lapse.

‘Sound & Shot’ stores sound and voice together with a capture picture.

Entertainment

The ‘Group Play’ function lets you share music and stream it to your friends nearby without requiring a Wi-Fi AP or cellular signal. You connect directly with others to share, play and co-create content and entertainment instantly.

‘Share Music’ lets you have the same song playing on multiple phones in synchronisation.

Utility

‘S Translator’ is pretty special as it gives you an instant, on-the-spot translation tool, using text or voice translation on applications such as email, text messages or instant messaging. This instant translation is possible both from speech-to-text, and text-to-speech.

'Samsung Smart Pause' stops video feeds when you glance away from the display while

'Air View' allows you to control touch actions by hovering a finger over the display. Without touching you can preview the content of an email, calendar, image gallery or video without having to open it

'Air Gesture' extends this functionality so you can change a music track, scroll up and down a web page or accept a call with a wave of your hand.

‘Samsung Smart Scroll’ allows you to scroll the browser or emails up and down without touching the screen. It detects your eyes and recognises the movement of your wrist, then scrolls the pages up or down accordingly.

‘S VoiceTM Drive’ lets you activate commands via voice control while driving. It links up with your car’s Bluetooth and automatically turns on driving mode. This will convert text to speech so you can easily and safely check messages with no need to look at the screen.

With ‘Samsung WatchON’, the Galaxy S4 will transform into an IR remote to control your home entertainment system including TV, set-top box or DVD player.

Rather like the HTC One, you can use it to browse and preview content including live TV, cable TV and VOD with a built-in EPG (Electronic Programme Guide).

Samsung’s ‘S Health’ feature combines sensors built into the device with the company’s onboard software to systematically and automatically monitor your health. You can use it to check your health conditions with the food diary, exercise diary and sleep monitor.

‘Samsung Adapt Display’ adjusts the display brightness and settings depending on your environment and the app currently in use, while ‘Samsung Adapt Sound’ does the same for audio.
