The keyboard-equipped BlackBerry Q10 is now available to pre-order at Carphone Warehouse

The much-anticipated BlackBerry Q10 is now available to pre-order from UK retailer Carphone Warehouse ahead of its release date at the end of April.

The BlackBerry Q10 is the second device in BlackBerry’s (formerly RIM) line of handsets running the company’s new BlackBerry 10 operating system and is the first model on the platform to feature the traditional physical Qwerty keyboard alongside a touch display.

Carphone Warehouse states the handset will be available across all major UK networks on pay monthly tariffs. The first 2,000 customers to pre-order a pay monthly deal will also get a free wireless Bluetooth speaker with an RRP of £79.95.

Buyers can have the BlackBerry Q10 free as part of a £36 per month contract for 24 months with Orange, O2, T-Mobile, Three, EE and TalkMobile. Or you can buy the device SIM-free for £579.95.

The BlackBerry Q10 is 4G capable, meaning you can get it with one of EE’s 4G superfast data connections.

The handset has a 1.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 dual-core processor with 2GB of RAM and a PowerVR SGX544 graphics processing unit (GPU).

You get 16GB of onboard storage plus microSD capability for cards up to 64GB. The touchscreen may only measure 3.1-inches but it’s Super AMOLED and sports a 720x720 pixel resolution at a fairly sharp 328 pixels-per-inch (ppi).

On the rear is an 8-megapixel primary camera with LED flash and 1080p HD video capture while the front-facing snapper is rated at 2-megapixels. BlackBerry’s built-in camera software captures footage before and after a shot is taken, allowing you to cycle through to subjects’ faces to get the best shot.

The BlackBerry Q10 is a compact device, it’s solid and well-made and sports a distinctive ‘glass weave’ back panel to provide better grip.

BlackBerry 10 features a unique interface and multitasking setup. The notifications and communications centre is called the BlackBerry Hub and it’s always accessible from any screen with a simple gesture – here you can see all your email, instant messaging (including BBM), social networking and other notifications at a glance. Active apps can also be minimised to a thumbnail view which still feeds live information.

There are, at present, over 70,000 BlackBerry 10 apps on BlackBerry App World for you to get to grips with – check out our round-up of the best of the bunch.
