Nokia is preparing to launch a new colour variant of its Lumia 920 Windows Phone 8 flagship, reports reveal.
The news comes via 3G.co.uk, UK network Three’s official blog. Although it doesn’t cite sources it seems likely a carrier network would probably be quite well informed on forthcoming releases, so we’re thinking it’s probably legit.
The Lumia 920 can currently be bought in white, red, black, yellow and grey and these will soon be joined by the new minty fresh variant.
While Nokia is said to have a number of new flagships up its sleeve to land later in the year, this new colour variant retains the spec line-up of the current hero model, which includes a 4.5-inch IPS display with a 1280x768 pixel resolution, a dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 processor clocked at 1.5GHz and the 8.7-megapixel PureView camera with optical image stabilisation.
Current rumours suggest Nokia is preparing a so-called Lumia ‘Catwalk’ which will reboot the Lumia 920 design in a lightweight aluminium body. But, it’s also been claimed another aluminium model is the Lumia PureView EOS, possibly called the Lumia 1000, which will allegedly have a 41-megapixel camera as seen in the Nokia 808 Pureview (Symbian).
Finally, a recent leak claims Nokia is readying a Lumia 950 with a 1280x768 pixel AMOLED display, but at this point it isn’t known if we’re dealing with a fabricated render or something legitimate.
It’s a little odd that Nokia would choose to launch a new colour variant now for a phone which has been on the market for a reasonable amount of time, especially when new products are expected in the coming months. Perhaps the company is seeking to entice buyers who’ve hesitated so far with the bright new green model.
