Specs and details of Nokia's EOS PureView Windows Phone handset have been revealed

New specs and details for Nokia’s rumoured EOS Windows Phone 8 handset, which is said to carry the company’s 41-megapixel PureView camera, have emerged online.

MyNokiaBlog reports having spoken to a source ‘familiar with Nokia’s plans’. Allegedly, Nokia is working with two test models at the moment. The spec line-up between both handsets is said to be virtually identical, except for the fact that one uses a dual-core chip and the other has a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800. According to the source Nokia has some concerns with the Snapdragon 800’s impact on battery life compared to the dual-core handset.

If true, it wouldn’t be the first time Nokia had conducted in-house experiments with multiple hardware. Nokia personnel previously revealed after the launch of the Lumia 720 that several test models had been trialled with both 1GB and 512MB of RAM. Obviously, the 512MB model came out as the better option.

The report says the EOS has the same battery pack as the Nokia Lumia 920 flagship, which is 2,000mAh, and a similar display resolution but this time it’s an AMOLED display rather than LCD.

The camera will be a 41-megapixel sensor with both a Xenon and LED flash, as well as optical image stabilisation. It was also suggested is could pack a variable aperture lens and Nokia is said to have added a more comprehensive camera interface to take full advantage of all the extra capabilities. Apparently it might be similar to the interface seen on the Nokia 808 PureView Symbian phone.

MicroSD support will also be included, but other features mentioned were said to be possible additions between now and release and couldn’t be confirmed as definite. These include a microHDMI port and support 2K and 4K video capture.

Previous rumours have claimed the EOS will feature an aluminium body to compensate for the camera’s added weight.

Oddly, throughout all of this, the Nokia EOS has never been mentioned with the Lumia brand name for Nokia’s Windows Phone devices. We have a suspicion that the EOS name is simply a working codename and we’ll see some kind of number designation when the phone actually hits the market – some rumours have pointed to this being Lumia 1000.
