The Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 is now available to buy in the UK, hitting the market first at Samsung’s flagship Experience Store in Westfield Statford City.
For £339 you can pick up the 16GB storage Wi-Fi only model at that specific shop, but the device is expected to go on sale in other stores in the coming weeks.
From April 15 (for a limited time) you’ll be able to grab one with a few perks bundled-in free of charge, such as a £20 voucher for apps and content from the Samsung Learning Hub, some free games and a security app, a two month digital subscription to The Times newspaper, 50GB of DropBox cloud storage and a month’s worth of free access to the Samsung Music Hub.
In total, the free goodies are said to come to about £60 worth of stuff.
The 3G version will apparently be following shortly and will of course cost a bit more.
The 8-inch tablet comes with Samsung’s S-Pen stylus, developed by Wacom, with 1024 levels of pressure and the ability to sense the nib when it hovers above the screen. You can also use the pen to operate the capacitive buttons at the bottom of the device. The pen allows you to create and edit content on the tablet with very smooth operation.
The tablet is powered by Samsung’s Exynos 4412 quad-core chip at 1.6GHz with 2GB of RAM and a Mali-400MP quad-core graphics processing unit (GPU). This means Android 4.1 Jelly Bean zips along nicely and you can also use some of TouchWiz’s advanced features made especially for the Note range, including multiscreen split-screen operation.
There’s a 5-megapixel camera on the rear of the device and a 1.3-megapixel secondary on the front for video calls, you also get microSD support for cards up to 64GB and a 4,600mAh battery pack said to offer up to 120 hours of music playback.
