Three Samsung Galaxy Note 3 prototypes are doing the rounds and one of them features a flexible display.
Taking its cue from Apple, Samsung is circulating three Galaxy Note 3 prototypes so no-one will know which is the real deal until it launches - possibly in September at IFA 2013.
The prototypes are under the microscope in Korea, Samsung's home turf, and at least one of these has a flexible display according to SamMobile.
The three devices will each be very different and are said to be:
- Samsung Galaxy Note 3 that looks like the Samsung Galaxy S4
- Samsung Galaxy Note 3 with a completely new design
- Samsung Galaxy Note 3 with a flexible display
Samsung has doubts about this last prototype because the flexible display is causing problems, according to SamMobile's source.
The idea of Samsung introducing a flexible display on the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 is not a new one. According to the OLED Association, it will be a full 720p display. The body said, ‘Samsung Electronics Company (SEC) will exhibit a new Galaxy NOTE 3, featuring an unbreakable OLED display at IFA 2013 in September and plans to launch the product in Q4’2013.’
Samsung's flexible Youm display was showcased at the Consumer Electronics Show in January and Korean website Naver reported the tech would debut on the Samsung Galaxy Note 3.
- Samsung Galaxy Note 3 will have flexible 720p screen
- Samsung Galaxy Note 3's screen will be flexible according to a new source
Ahead of the iPhone 4S's launch, it was said Apple released a range of prototypes to testers so that if any were found (say, in a bar), no-one would know whether it was the genuine release design or not.
Is Samsung adopting the same strategy? If it wants its flagship phablet properly tested before it launches, we say yes.
