HTC’s M4 will be an HTC One-style with a lower spec and at a cheaper cost, according to reports.
The M4 will have a similar design language but at a scaled down size and with a 4.3-inch 720p display. M4 is of course a working title and it seems pretty likely it’ll use the HTC One brand in some way for its launch name.
It’s not entirely clear if it’ll share the aluminium build material of the HTC One or if it’ll be some of HTC’s rather tasty polycarbonate instead. Previous reports have suggested a 'metal alloy', however.
But it doesn’t have a removable battery and we can see a card tray in pics leaked via @evleaks, suggesting a unibody is quite likely.
Of course, the hardware takes a bit of a hit to make things more affordable – it runs a dual-core processor, likely a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 of some variety though there aren’t any specific details just yet and no mention of clock speeds. Storage is 16GB, which is respectable and could suggest the phone will see a mid-range price point, while RAM is also looking good at 2GB.
Android 4.2 Jelly Bean is the operating system of choice, just as it was on the HTC One and there’s every reason to believe it’ll have HTC’s Sense 5 UI overlaid on top, complete with the Blink Feed homescreen feature and a number of other tweaks. Beats Audio is also par for the course.
The HTC One’s camera was a bit of a specialist setup using a 4-megapixel sensor and Ultrapixel technology which has largely been quite well received. This will also be present in the HTC M4 though it’s not known if the spec will be exactly the same. The phone will also reportedly have a 1,700mAh battery.
PhoneArena’s sources indicate the HTC M4 will arrive ‘near the end of the second quarter’ (so June-ish, then) and it’ll apparently be 4G capable too.
