HTC will be updating the HTC One flagship to Android 4.2 Jelly Bean within the next three weeks, according to a Tweet from an HTC developer.
Responding the a question from an HTC One user over the arrival of the next Android build, @LlabTooFeR, who GottaBeMobile describes as ‘a notorious HTC insider’ and ‘a person who is plugged in when it comes to HTC software updates’, said version 4.2.2 would be available in ‘2-3 weeks I think.’
That would mean some time during the week starting June 3 at the very latest, but possibly as early as the end of May. However, it’s worth pointing out that Google is thought to be preparing a release of Android 4.3 Jelly Bean in the next few months with some rumours pointing to June 10.
Overall the HTC One has been relatively well received by consumers and reviewers alike, however, while sales are looking positive for the company compared to previous months it’s still fighting an uphill struggle against the sheer marketing power of rivals such as Samsung and Apple.
One key criticism levelled at the HTC One was the older 4.1 Jelly Bean Android build loaded onto it and many users have been eagerly anticipating an update. However, if HTC updated to 4.2 just as 4.3 rolls out it will remain one step behind as rivals such as Samsung are notoriously quick to push out new Android builds to existing handsets.
Would it be better for HTC to wait for 4.3 or to go ahead with pushing 4.2 earlier? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.
