HTC is set to launch a phablet device positioned as a direct competitor to Samsung's upcoming Galaxy Note 3 device, if notorious Twitter tipster @evleaks is to believed.
The news comes via the unerringly accurate Twitter feed which announced yesterday that 'the upcoming HTC phablet goes by the codename of T6', following up the nugget of information by posting a link to Japanese site HTC Soku that appeared to outline five international variants of the device.
Whilst this development does seem to have emerged out of nothing - especially considering that HTC has already announced that the HTC One would be the only device launched under the 'One' series umbrella this year - a device that aims to present some competition for Samsung in the phablet market it currently annexes can only be a good thing for the ailing Taiwanese manufacturer as it looks to boost sales.
Notwithstanding the fact that the source of this information generally has good form for correctly predicting as-yet-unreleased devices, the leak also ties in with recent launches from HTC including the US edition Droid DNA and Japanese-only HTC J Butterfly, both of which feature 5-inch screens. Taking this into account it wouldn't be unfeasible for a potential addition to the HTC stable to sport an expansive display.
Like most smartphone manufacturers, HTC has remained decidedly silent when it comes to responding to leaks about devices yet to break official cover, but with the touted release of the Galaxy Note 3 edging ever closer, it's likely news about this potential rival will gather pace over the coming weeks.
