Another photo has leaked online showing what’s alleged to be the front panel of the iPad 5 and, as with previous rumours and leaks, it looks distinctly like the iPad Mini’s streamlined fascia.

The image comes via Chinese tech site Apple.pro and there’s little evidence to verify the authenticity of the image. As usual, it could quite easily be a mock-up or it might even just be a load of carefully cut-out cardboard for all we know.

There are certainly enough rumours going round suggesting Apple will adopt the iPad Mini’s design at a larger scale for the iPad 5, which depending on how you look at it could either support the idea that this is genuinely an iPad 5 front panel, or that it’s a hoax because someone knew what we were all expecting and constructed it accordingly. Who can say?
Despite launching the iPad Mini last year Apple still stands by the notion that there are plenty of consumers who want the larger screen real-estate, but the theory goes that Apple recognises users want lighter and more manageable devices, even on the larger scale. Thus, the rumour is that Apple has shaved off some of the bodyshell – the bezel is said to be super-thin and it could weigh as much as a third less than the iPad 4.
The rumour mill is currently all over the shop at the moment with regards to Apple’s launch plans. Since before the start of the year several sources have suggested we could see a product launch over the Summer in June, July or August and/or at the end of the year from September to the run up to Christmas and in all cases we could be looking at the iPhone 5S, iPhone 6, a cheaper iPhone, the iPad Mini 2 or the iPad 5, or all of the above. So anything goes basically – it’s wide open.
We’ll be keeping our ear to the ground, but of course Apple will remain tight-lipped up to the last minute. In the meantime, take this leak with a grain of salt.
