The Google Nexus 5 has been leaked by a reputable source, showing off plenty of LG branding including what looks like a model number.
The pictures, which were leaked via the popular @evleaks Twitter account, which has made a name for itself with a series of high-profile, accurate leaks, show a buttonless, large-screened device with a razor thin bezel, emblazoned with the LG logo, which might well fit the description for an update to the Nexus 4 - but the image could just as easily be showing LG’s next flagship, the Optimus G2.
The end of last week saw news of three different sets of benchmarks for mystery LG devices with alpha numeric codenames popping up on benchmarking service AnTuTu, so we know we’re expecting something from the Korean firm in the near future, but we’ve also seen (and heard) a number of scraps of gossip surrounding Google’s next Nexus device, though we’ve also been warned not to expect it at the company’s I/O, which kicks off later this month.
The most likely launch for the Nexus 5 is the autumn, though Google has surprised folk before, which would appear to suggest that this photograph is LG’s next big-thing rather than Google’s, but the connection between the device (if indeed it is the Optimus G2) and the next Nexus may be similar to that of its predecessor and the Nexus 4, so it may yet serve as a precursor to what Google is planning to unleash in the near future.
While we’re keen to get eyes on both devices we’re going to cautiously confine this rumor to the ‘maybe’ pile and would suggest that you do the same – but it has certainly given us some food for thought in the build-up to Google’s annual fun-fest.
