The Google Nexus 5 release date could be as soon as the device is announced at Google I/O.
UK phone retailers Carphone Warehouse and Phones4U have stopped selling the Nexus 4, growing speculation that the search giant will be announcing the Nexus 4 at Google I/O between May 15 and 17.
Usually, when a new model of a device is released, it is either withdrawn sale to make space for new stock, or the price is reduced.
The Google Nexus 4 was released in October last year and was the first Android device to launch on Google's Jelly Bean platform. It's also one of the cheapest, best-performing Android smartphones to date and we expect the same quality from the Google Nexus 5 when that is announced.
Rumours surrounding the Google Nexus 5 are spreading like wildfire at the moment.
New pictures of the rumoured Nexus 5 were released earlier in the week, along with some LG branding, suggesting LG will once again be manufacturing a Google-branded handset.
In terms of specs, we can expect:
- Qualcomm’s speed-demon Snapdragon 800 CPU
- 16GB, 32GB and 64GB onboard storage options
- Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie
- 3300mAh battery
- 5-inch 1080p display
- Google Nexus 5 release date, specs and price rumours
- Nexus 5 leaked in pictures, showing off LG branding?
Google I/O is Google's annual conference, where traditionally its newest Android version and newest Nexus devices are launched.
There's a lot of specualtion around what 2013's conference will bring, with some suggesting it could be a new Nexus 4 with LTE, others saying it's a revamped Nexus 7 tablet.
