Nokia has posted a video on its US website showing the Lumia 928’s camera performance in low-light compared to rival devices.
A night-time rollercoaster ride is used to pitch the Lumia 928’s PureView 8.7-megpixel camera with f/2.0 aperture and optical stabilisation against the iPhone 5 and Samsung Galaxy S3. The difference is pretty startling with much richer colour, sharper image quality, less blurring and less noise on the Lumia 928. The iPhone 5 probably comes out worst with a very blurry de-saturated picture.
Currently there’s some confusion over the Lumia 928, it’s known to be a US exclusive on carrier Verizon, but, what’s not clear is whether it’s the same as the Nokia Lumia 925, which is in turn thought to be the Nokia Catwalk. It’s possible that the Nokia Lumia 925 might be the international version of the Lumia 928.
Not much is known about the Lumia 928, but the Lumia 925 or Catwalk is thought to be thinner and lighter with an aluminium unibody and a smaller camera bulge.
Both the Lumia 925 and Lumia 928 are thought to launch during Nokia events on May 14. The rest of the spec line-up for both phones is believed to be similar to the Lumia 920, including a Qualcomm 1.5GHz dual-core chip, 1GB RAM, 16GB of internal storage, 4G capability and a 2,000mAh battery.
While many critics were wowed by the Lumia 920’s PureView camera most were also turned off by the weight and bulk of the phone – it’s thought Nokia’s Lumia 928 and Lumia 925 are an attempt to address this gripe.
We’ll be sure to bring you all the news of Nokia’s launch on May 14 to try and demystify things somewhat and if anything else emerges in the meantime we’ll let you know.
