In a shock announcement at its Google I/O conference, Google revealed it has struck a deal with Samsung to sell Samsung Galaxy S4 handsets equipped with stock Android Jelly Bean directly from its Google Play store.
The handset will feature 16GB of onboard storage and will have an unlocked bootloader. System updates to the Android software will come straight from Google as soon as they are launched, so no more waiting around for Samsung or network carriers.
Google says the Galaxy S4 with stock Android will be arriving on Google Play from June 26 priced at $649 (£425).
Previously there’s been some controversy surrounding the Samsung Galaxy S4 16GB model as with Android and TouchWiz installed users only have access to around 8GB of storage space.
It will be interesting to see how much spare room the Galaxy S4 with stock Android will have.
Google is yet to reveal if there will be any special name for the Galaxy S4 variant running stock Android.
