Three is now carrying Sony’s Xperia SP mid-range smartphone in the UK on pay monthly contracts and prepay tariffs.

The Xperia SP can be purchased for free as part of a £26 per month Ultimate Internet 500 plan or £29 per month on the One Plan with each plan featuring Three’s ‘all-you-can-eat’ unlimited data allowances.
On prepay, customers can buy the phone for £349.99 with a variety of top-up plans. All In One 15 gives you 30 days of unlimited data, 300 minutes and 3,000 texts for a £15 top-up.
We were quite impressed by the Xperia SP in our review. It features a 4.6-inch LCD display with a 1280x720 pixel resolution at 319 pixels-per-inch (ppi) and boasting Sony’s Mobile Bravia Engine 2 for enhanced colour, contrast and sharpness.
The phone has 8GB of onboard storage (though the user can access 5.8GB) plus microSD support for 32GB cards while the processor is a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 dual-core setup clocked at 1.7GHz with an Adreno 320 graphics processing unit (GPU) and 1GB of RAM.
The camera is a reasonably capable 8-megapixel Sony Exmor RS setup with LED flash and 1080p video capture, while connectivity includes 4G, HSPA+. Wi-Fi, NFC, Bluetooth, microUSB, GPS and MHL.
Power comes from a 2,370mAh non-removable pack which we found gives quite a lengthy life on a single charge.
Being an Xperia phone, the Xperia SP runs Android, specifically version 4.1 Jelly Bean with the Sony UI bolted on.
While Three’s price plans seem reasonable it’s worth noting you can get the Xperia SP cheaper elsewhere, it’s been spotted for as little as £250 on T-Mobile although that price has now been upped to £300 and it’s currently out of stock at time of writing.
