The images show that handsets running the build, also known as GDR2, will be able to display a persistent clock on the screen even if the device is in ‘sleep’ mode.
A new FM Radio interface will be included for compatible models and the settings menu will include sliders for tweaking the screen colour saturation and ‘temperature’.
Allegedly the update will also unlock the ability for a handset to detect if it is face-down and to toggle silent mode on when it is, a feature we’ve seen on HTC devices for some time.
This is a fairly incremental update though, the big one is GDR3 scheduled for later in 2013 which will introduce support for 1080p Full HD displays and is expected to signal the arrival of a new generation of Full HD Windows Phone handsets.
At Nokia’s Lumia 925 launch the company announced that when it updates its existing Windows Phone 8 Lumia models to Windows Phone Amber, dubbed the Nokia Lumia Amber update, it will introduce its Smart Camera app to them all.
Smart Camera debuted on the Lumia 925 and allows seamless editing of photos from within the camera gallery view. Users can edit multi-shot images frame-by-frame, remove unwanted objects or people and add effects.
According to PhoneArena’s report, the Lumia 925 will have Windows Phone 8 Amber pre-installed, suggesting it could then rollout to other devices from the time it arrives at retail. Nokia has confirmed Lumia 925 pre-orders will start from June 7, but UK network O2 has confirmed it will have devices for sale from June 13, so we could see Windows Phone 8 Amber arriving around that time.
More news as we get it.
