Asus has announced the Transformer Book Trio at Computex 2013.

The device is pegged to fill three roles, hence the name, and can reportedly function as your tablet, notebook and a desktop PC all in one. It’s powered by a pair of Intel processors and carries both Microsoft’s Windows 8 platform and Google’s Android. As with other Transformer models it also has a detachable keyboard dock.
The Trio tablet has an 11.6-inch display with a 1920x1080 pixel Full HD resolution and dual Intel Core i7 Haswell and Atom. The Atom is clocked at 2GHz and runs Android Jelly Bean while the Haswell takes care of Windows.
A physical hotkey lets you switch between Android and Windows Phone 8 and it’s allegedly near instantaneous, plus you can also share data between the two platforms.
However, Windows 8 mode will only be accessible when the tablet is docked with the keyboard, as this houses a battery booster pack (15 hours) and a 1TBGB hard drive where apparently Windows 8 will be installed. The tablet itself will have SD card slots and 64GB of onboard storage and there’ll be a desktop dock with 750GB of onboard storage.
Asus is getting a bit of a reputation for developing whacky devices no-one else has thought of. While dual-boot devices aren’t exactly unheard of this specific implementation is entirely new.
We’re sure there must be some people out there who’re torn on Android and Windows 8, so this might scratch both itches simultaneously. Asus is yet to reveal pricing or availability but something like this isn’t going to come cheap, we reckon.
