Apple’s budget iPhone and next-generation iPad Mini 2 will reportedly begin shipping in August

The rumoured budget iPhone and iPad Mini 2 with a retina display are reportedly in production, as the delivery of components for the devices will begin shipping next month.

Apple’s entry-level iPhone and Retina iPad Mini 2 will reportedly begin shipping in August before launches this Autumn. The devices are to be shipped from Apple’s manufacturing partner, Pegatron. This is unusual for Apple, as Foxconn has built previous iPhones and iPads.

Apple plans to split manufacturing between the manufacturers, with Pegatron building 75 per cent of the FDD-LTE version of the budget iPhone and 55 per cent of legacy iPhone 4 and 4S models.

KGI Securities analyst Ming-chi Kuo revealed these plans, as well as the estimate that Apple will ship 35.8 million iPhone 5S handsets in 2013. Kuo also estimated 53.4 million budget iPhones will be shipped.

The cheaper iPhone is rumoured to be an affordable option for those wanting an Apple smartphone. Leaked pictures from earlier this month reveal a plastic chassis as well. Meanwhile, the next-generation iPad Mini 2 will have a Retina display, bringing high-definition resolution to the mini tablet.

As usual, Apple is keeping quiet about its plans, although chief executive Tim Cook did hint earlier in the year that Apple would launch its hardware products in the Autumn.
