With the Samsung Galaxy S4 Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 edition getting a launch in Korea it’s perhaps unsurprising that benchmarks have emerged already and, unsurprisingly, they show the phone to be pretty rapid in the performance stakes.

The Snapdragon 800-equipped model outpaces both existing Galaxy S4 variants, the one available in the UK with a Snapdragon 600 and the Exynos 5 Octa version which was only released in Asia. The benchmarks were performed on both AnTuTu and Quadrant, with Quadrant showing a near 50 per cent performance boost over the existing models. Oddly, AnTuTu only showed a 14 per cent difference in performance.
So far Samsung has only announced the Qualcomm 800-based Galaxy S4 for the Korean market, but rumours suggest it will be rolled out internationally at some point in the not-too-distant future.
Samsung experienced something of a backlash when it emerged the Samsung Galaxy S4 powered by its anticipated Exynos 5 Octa chip would not hit markets outside of Asia, as many were interested in the processor’s power-saving properties. There’s also been a bit of understandable disgruntlement online from those who’ve already bought the Qualcomm 600-powered Galaxy S4. No doubt the company will not want to court controversy further by restricting the updated model to just the Asian market again.
The timing does seem a little odd though. I get the whole ‘staggering models so people have to by twice’ concept even if it’s a bit nefarious but, generally speaking, it’s a bit more spaced out than this. Too soon Samsung?
