The Sony Togari, said to be the company’s forthcoming phablet competitor and lined up to challenge Samsung’s Galaxy Note 3, now has a new name as the Xperia ZU, according to multiple sources.

The device, outed by VR-Zone, will be called the Xperia ZU according to the publication's unnamed insider sources. We've previously heard of the phone being named the Xperia L4. It may be appearing at Sony’s scheduled June 25 event taking place in Berlin, Germany.
According to the report, Sony is experiencing a shortage of 13-megapixel camera hardware and the Xperia ZU will instead feature an 8-megpaixel snapper. However, the latest speculation says it will feature a Triluminos Full HD 1080p 6.4-inch display to counter this. Previously Trilumionos technology, which enhances colour saturation, was only rumoured for the Xperia i1 Honami 5-inch flagship.
There’s also talk of the so-called X-Reality Engine, apparently an upgraded version of the company’s Mobile BRAVIA Engine 2 seen on the Xperia Z said to improve colour and contrast. IP58 water and dust resistance certification is also now rumoured, allowing the Xperia ZU to be submerged in up to 1m of water.
The report ‘confirms’ Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 800 quad-core chip for the handset - previously it was thought it would either have a Quadlcomm 600 or the higher-end 800 processor. It’ll keep the previously murmured 2.3GHz clockspeed.
The Xperia ZU has also leaked via a different source at more or less the same time. A user on the Esato forums going by the name ‘geniusming’ showed a photo of himself holding the device with an adorable kitten perched on top.
If we avert our eyes from the fuzzy ball of cuteness for a few seconds (difficult as it is) we can see this device is very thin and not large enough to be the company’s existing Xperia Tablet Z as some have claimed.
It’s also not small enough to be the Xperia Z. Being an anonymous slab of black material it could indeed be absolutely anything but with Sony's scheduled event not that far away, there could be some further developments in the offing soon.
