Need a new phone? Here are our favourite deals of the year so far

2013 has been a good year for the smartphone market, with a whole bunch of devices being released, some which are premium and as such feature high-end tech, and lots which are better suited to the mid-range and budget end of the market.

Once you’ve decided which is the best device for you, the prospect of scouring the internets to find the best deal can be a daunting one, with mobile service providers clamouring to take your business by offering to give you more than the last, so we thought we’d do the searching for you and find you some of the best phone deals of 2013.

Apple iPhone 5

The iPhone 5 is available from several service providers but one of the best deals we’ve found so far is with Vodafone, via third party MobilePhonesDirect – You can get yourself an iPhone 5 with no upfront cost, which will give you 300 minutes, unlimited texts and 250MB of data, plus 3GB of BT Openzone internet over 2 years. It’s a cashback deal, so although the monthly cost is £29, you can claim back £120 over time, taking the overall cost down to just £24.00. You can also get a SIM-free iPhone 5 from Amazon for as little as £499, which is less than the Apple Store!

HTC One

Third-party provider Dial-a-Phone has some great deals available on the HTC One, the best of which comes from Orange. They’re offering 6 months free line rental by redemption, which means that you’ll get the device for free at £23.35 per month overall, for a two-year contract, after cash back. For this, you’ll get 400 minutes, unlimited texts and 750MB of data. If you’d rather buy the device outright, you can pick one up for as little as £469 for the 32GB version in silver, from Amazon.

Nokia Lumia 925

If you fancy side-stepping the market leaders, iOS and Android, you could always give Windows Phone 8 a whirl, and the Nokia Lumia 925 is a great place to start with Microsoft’s mobile OS. There are some brilliant deals around for the Lumia 925 at the moment and one in particular, from Mobiles.co.uk, is offering the device free from O2, with 9 months half-price line rental. This means that for just £21.94 a month after cash back over 2 years, you’ll get 300 minutes, unlimited texts and 500MB data. Alternatively, you could go for the SIM free option, which will cost you £420 from Amazon in either black or white.

Samsung Galaxy S4

The Samsung Galaxy S4 is one of the hottest devices of the year and it’s available on some surprisingly reasonable deals. The best we’ve found is from Vodafone, via MobilePhonesDirect. The deal would usually cost £29 a month but cashback takes it down to just £23.50 over 2 years, with no upfront cost. Included, you’ll get 300 minutes, unlimited texts, 250MB data and 3GB of BT Openzone internet. You can pick up a SIM free device on Amazon from £440, if that’s more your cup of tea.

Huawei Ascend P1

Huawei is has been emerging talent in the smartphone world this year, offering hard-wearing, reliable handsets at reasonable prices. The Ascend P1 is available from Orange for as little as £20.50 a month if you go via buymobilephones.net. This will give you a free device, plus 100 minutes, unlimited texts, 500MB data and unlimited BT Openzone Wi-Fi. If you’d rather go the SIM-free route, you can grab the Huawei Ascend P1 for just £169.99 from Expansys – and it’s a great device for the money!
