The iPad Mini 2 or Retina iPad Mini may not be released until 2014.
According to dubious news source DigiTimes, the iPad Mini 2 won't enter production until Q4 2013.
The information comes via, you guessed it, supply chain sources, and means you can forget about ordering that iPad Mini as a Christmas present.
Apple is due to launch a revamped iPad Mini featuring a Retina display with a resolution of 2048x1536 pixels. The device is said to measure 7.9-inches, like the iPad Mini. Other key features of the iPad Mini 2 include adynamic bezel that will allow you to use the area around the screen as an extension of the display, an upgraded processor - possibly the as yet unannounced A7 processor - and an iSight camera
Apple may well release a slightly tweaked iPad Mini in the second half on 2013 (iPad Mini S, anyone?), but we think this is very unlikely if the company is to launch such an update next year.
In other iPad news, the same website reports that Apple's iPad 5 specs will include thin-film touch screen technology that will reduce the weight of the device by 20-30 per cent. Incorporating a slimmer bezel means that Apple can expand the screen size on the device without increasing the bulk.
The iPad 5 looks like its design could be based on the iPad Mini, with a curvier design. It will include iOS 7 as the operating system and will be around 7.2mm thin.
The iPad 5 'is expected to start production in small amounts during July 2013 followed by volume shipments of 2-3 million units in August and September. As of October, shipments of the device are expected to increase another 25-30%, the sources believe,' reports DigiTimes.
