The LG Optimus G2 could be arriving at a New York event on August 7

LG may launch the Optimus G2 flagship soon, as the company has announced it's holding an event in New York on August 7 where it could be set to reveal the rumoured handset.

The invitation tagline for the event is ‘Great 2 Have You,’ suggesting the unveiling of the successor device. Following the Optimus G, which has gained popularity since its release in August 2012, there have been several rumours surrounding the G2.

One leak showed a button-less front with a thin bezel, which was consistent with the rumour of on-screen buttons. According to rumours, the handset is expected to pack a 5.2-inch 1080p HD display, a must have for most flagship phones these days.

Images of the Optimus G2 show a camera on the back of the device, surrounded by a LED flash and +/- buttons, possibly related to the camera. Additionally, the G2 is said to have a 13-megapixel camera and LG previously revealed with Qualcomm that it would carry the company's super-fast Snapdragon 800 chipset with 4G LTE, an Adreno 330 graphics processing unit (GPU) and 2GB of RAM.

With such a powerful processor, the Optimus G2 is highly anticipated, especially after the original speculation that it would launch at CES 2013 in Las Vegas on January 7. Of course, the phone wasn’t actually launched then, but considering how outspoken LG has been about the phone so far we think it's a fairly safe bet that we will be seeing the Optimus G2 at the event on August 7.

There's also an official teaser video which was issued with the announcement:
