Pictures have leaked showing what’s alleged to be the colourful back panels of Motorola’s Moto X flagship smartphone.
It was previously rumoured that the Moto X would offer consumers a choice from over 20 colours and subsequent murmurings have suggested the phone will be customisable. Most recently, a Motorola ad campaign which hit major US newspapers yesterday reiterated that customisation will be a significant feature of the phone.
Now we’ve got our first glimpse of any part of the phone and can see four of the possible 20 colours rumoured. The snaps came from reputable leak source Nowhereelse.fr and show cyan, magenta, purple and green back covers. It’s not yet clear whether they may be interchangeable as with some Nokia Lumia models.
It’s not entirely surprising that more information is starting to emerge. Previously Motorola boss Dennis Woodside dropped a few hints about the Moto X at a conference and even said he had one in his pocket, though he refused to show it. A release from Motorola said that we would see the Moto X launch in the summer, which is about now-ish. The newspaper campaigns just reinforce that something will be happening soon.
The reports through which these photos have emerged have also introduced some fresh info, apparently as well as the back cover colour, buyers will also be able to choose the ‘trim’ colour. You may even be able to have the phone engraved, though we’re guessing this will cost extra, but the reports also say that there won’t be any customisation of internal hardware as some had hoped.
We’re still none-the-wiser about whether the Moto X will launch outside the US. If Motorola wants to make a serious go of things then it really should, but it is making a big song and dance about the phone being made in the USA. That doesn’t rule out a global launch, but Motorola hasn’t exactly been forthcoming on the issue.
Hopefully we’ll have more to report on this soon enough.
