The next generation Nexus 7 2 has been leaked in press shots by savvy tipsters @evleaks.
The device, which appears to have increased slightly in size thanks to enlarged top and bottom bevels, has the ‘Nexus’ logo emblazoned on the back in vertical letters and a smaller Asus logo beneath it. The back plate appears to have lost some of its golf-ball like texturing and the silver band around the original Nexus appears to have been darkened to a gunmetal or black.
Other features that are apparent in the leaked photos are a new rear-facing camera, which is thought to be a 5-megapixel sensor, dual speakers to improve audio quality and a notification light, which will no doubt be welcomed by new owners and Nexus devotees alike.
While @evleaks is claiming the device will be available in 16 and 32GB models, an eagle-eyed person at Android Central noticed an advert posted on Google+, allegedly for Best Buy in the States, which shows the new Nexus 7 for sale, retailing at $229.99 (£150) for a 16GB model, with no mention of any other storage options available.
The Best Buy advert also states that the new Nexus 7 will have a 1920x1200 pixel display, which is a vast improvement on the 1280x800 pixel resolution offered by the original model and will hopefully help Google to make the second-gen Nexus 7 a real contender to the tablet market throne.
This Wednesday (July 24) marks the day that Google and Android executive Sundar Pichai throws what the company is claiming is a personal soiree, but sources predict that the event could well be a clandestine product launch and given that Google usually launches its devices with a new version of its operating system, we could well see the release of the newest version of Android, Jelly Bean 4.3, alongside the next-gen Nexus 7.
