Samsung is apparently working on another Windows Phone 8 handset dubbed the ‘Cronus’.
The device was revealed after Samsung published a Windows Phone app called Mobile Care. Mobile Care appears to be a feedback app for Samsung Windows Phone devices, as the official app description reads: ‘MobileCare collects the log/minidump files and uploads to Samsung MobileCare server which is normally used in User Trial. The quality of the product can be improved by statistical analysis of the log/minidump.’

But the interesting thing is that the app description lists compatible devices as the Samsung Ativ S and Samsung Ativ Odyssey (both with the GDR2 update) and the ‘Cronus’, which is listed as ‘developing’.
The Samsung Cronus name has previously been spotted on Reddit, but no-one knew for sure what kind of device it was at the time. It’s not entirely clear whether Cronus is simply an in-development codename, although if it’s a Windows Phone 8 device it will likely carry the Ativ brand name, possibly making it the Samsung Ativ Cronus.
Another interesting point is that the codename has its roots in Greek mythology, we’ve also recently seen two Nokia phones listed as the Nokia Mars and Nokia Eros, which carry the same connection – is this a theme of Microsoft’s next major software update pegged to introduce quad-core processor support and 1080p Full HD displays?
Previously Qualcomm revealed its new generation of quad-core Snapdragon chips, including the Qualcomm 800, would support Windows Phone 8. Meanwhile, information has emerged showing that Nokia is indeed working on quad-core based Windows Phone Lumia handsets.
We’ll be keeping an eye out for more news on new Windows Phone 8 devices to see if this Greek theme keeps going and to bring you more information on the devices, of course.
