Samsung Galaxy Note 3 launching on September 4?

Samsung's Galaxy Note 3 may well arrive on September 4 ahead of IFA 2013

Samsung will launch the eagerly anticipated Galaxy Note 3 at one of the company’s Samsung Unpacked events on September 4, according to leaked information.

Previously it was thought that the Galaxy Note 3 would launch at IFA 2013 in Berlin during September, the annual event saw the launch of the Galaxy Note 2 in 2012 and Samsung execs have been cited saying that this was indeed the plan.

However, Android Geeks now reports that word from a ‘person close to the matter’ says Samsung will launch the device at a dedicated event ahead of the main IFA conference.

Samsung Unpacked will take place in the same place as IFA – Berlin, Germany – but it will be on September 4, that’s a few days before IFA 2013 kicks off on September 6 and the company is expected to announce the event and begin issuing invitations in August.

As is often the case for this sort of setup, we would expect the Galaxy Note 3 to be on display throughout the IFA 2013 conference for attendees to drool over after the main announcement event.

Rumours and leaks surrounding the Galaxy Note 3 are varied and numerous and it remains difficult to put together a picture of what the phablet will be like. The most consistent rumour for some time has been that it will sport a 5.9-inch touch display, with most reports suggesting it will remain Super AMOLED.

Despite larger AMOLED displays proving problematic for manufacturers, this would still make sense considering AMOLED and Wacom’s stylus digitiser technology being long-term companions in the brand – it’s unclear whether LCD would present a whole new set of complications even though the production of larger panels is supposedly easier.

The form factor and design of the Galaxy Note 3 also remains contentious. Several leaks have variously shown a more angular device with a similar silhouette to some Nokia Lumia or Sony Xperia handsets, while others would imply Samsung is keeping its rounded-corner style seen across its existing Galaxy portfolio.

A recurring theory is that Samsung produces multiple prototypes for in-development handsets, some of which sport dummy exteriors, this is said to be a deliberate ploy to throw leakers and press off the scent.

Aside from this it was largely thought the Galaxy Note 3 would echo its predecessors in using much of the same tech packed into its current Galaxy S flagship cousin, the Galaxy S4, which, for the European market, would mean a Qualcomm 600 processor clocked at around 1.9GHz.

However, some have suggested it could carry a Qualcomm 800 and the fact that Samsung is believed to be working on a Qualcomm 800 equipped Galaxy S4 replacement would fit with that idea.

We’ll be keeping an eye out for more info as we approach September. Stay tuned.
