The Samsung Galaxy Note 3 will be 8mm thick and feature 3GB of RAM, reports claim

Samsung’s Galaxy Note 3 could have 3GB of RAM onboard to aid with faster multitasking and stylus input, according to Korean news sources.

Korean tech news site Hankyung reports that the Galaxy Note 3 will be LTE-A (LTE Advanced) enabled, suggesting a Qualcomm 800 quad-core processor. However, this chip has been previouly seen on devices with 2GB of RAM rather than 3GB and it’s not clear where the information comes from. The Snapdragon 800 chip can be clocked as high as 2.3GHz.

SamMobile, an often reliable site for Samsung information, says it has heard the same claims before from its own insider sources. It also reports that the device will be 8mm thick and weigh 183g, making it lighter than the Sony Xperia Z Ultra, but around 2mm thicker.

GSMArena points out that Samsung already manufactures 4GB RAM using 20 nanometre semiconductors, although that would imply a bit of tweaking by Samsung as Qualcomm’s chips usually ship as a cohesive unit, complete with RAM and the chip-maker’s own Adreno graphics processing units (GPU).

Samsung is rumoured to be preparing one of its Samsung Unpacked events for September 4 in Berlin, Germany just two days ahead of the IFA 2013 at the same location. It was revealed by Samsung’s execs that the Galaxy Note 3 would be unveiled at the annual tech expo just as it was in previous years but it’s now thought the device will appear at this dedicated event just prior and will be showcased during the rest of the conference.

Other rumoured specs for the Galaxy Note 3 include a 5.9-inch Full HD Super AMOLED display and a 13-megapixel camera which may feature optical image stabilisation (OIS).
