The Sony Xperia i1 Honami's CyberShot camera interface has leaked and we now have an insight into how it’ll handle thanks to the efforts of an intrepid hacker.
User krabappel2548 posted on the XDA-Developers forums with a tweak which ports a leaked build of the Xperia i1 Honami’s camera software onto existing Xperia handsets, including the Xperia Z, Xperia ZL and Xperia Tablet Z.
The software includes an augmented reality mode which allows you to do fun but silly things like layer a tropical jungle filled with dinosaurs over your desk. Because we've all wanted to do this at some point. Just us? Ok then.
There’s also something called Info-eye, which apparently lets you conduct a ‘visual search’, according to Xperia Blog. Another setting is Timeshift, which appears to be Sony’s take on the kind of capabilities we’ve seen from its rivals recently and lets you capture a range of images over time and then pick the best. We’re not sure of the full extent of this mode yet and whether it lets you pull out moving objects, swap faces or modify individual frames.
There’s also a set of filters, including a Fish-Eye lens, and the whole interface has been modified extensively from Sony’s previous offerings. Reports also indicate that the software supports ‘higher resolution image processing’, which makes sense for the 20-megapixel Xenon-flash equipped setup the Xperia i1 is thought to be packing.
If you’ve got one of the aforementioned Sony devices you can check this out for yourself, though as always this is some fairly advanced modding stuff and may require you to do scary stuff with your phone and could even void your warranty. It will swap out the existing camera interface on your device, so you better make sure you know how to get the old one back if you change your mind. Proceed at your own risk.
