The device was spotted on the GFXBench benchmarking database on Tuesday 13 August and a list of specs has emerged with it.
The tablet will be an 8-inch device with a 1600x1200 pixel resolution at 250 pixels-per-inch – pretty good for a device of this size and putting it in direct competition with Google’s Nexus 7 2013 edition, amongst others.
The HP Slate 8 Pro follows in the footsteps of the HP Slate 7, which was a cheaper model, but this new device will allegedly be a more premium offering. It’s not just the ‘Pro’ on the end of the name that suggests this either, as the benchmarks show it will use Nvidia’s latest Tegra 4 quad-core processor clocked at 1.8GHz with 2GB of RAM.
Benchmark results show it’s a pretty fearsome beast as it clocked in almost as fast as the Xperia Z Ultra’s quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 2.2GHz chip
The HP Slate 8 Pro will carry a microSD slot, although there’s no indication of how much onboard storage will be thrown in. Meanwhile the battery pack is looking fairly robust at 5,000mAh.
It’s shaping up to be quite a competitive product and if HP plays its cards right by not charging the earth, using an up-to-date build of Android Jelly Bean with no interfering UI overlays and crafting a nice exterior, it could well be onto a winner.
We’ll be keeping an eye out for more information about this tablet in the coming months but we wouldn’t be at all surprised to see it surface at IFA 2013 in Berlin, Germany early next month.
