Two sets of iPhone Light (AKA iPhone 5C) photos have leaked, showing the budget iPhone's 8-megapixel camera and the front panel of the plastic device.
The first photo, picked up by UberGizmo, shows the device will sport the exact same 8-megapixel camera as the iPhone 5, complete with the sapphire crystal scratch-resistant coating.
Further info from the source suggests that the iPhone 5C, or iPhone Light will also feature the same A6 processor as was included in the iPhone 5, as well as 1GB RAM, leading us to the conclusion that the iPhone 5C will actually just be an iPhone 5 in a plastic case, with Apple cutting manufacturing costs by altering materials in this way.
The second picture revealed today by Chinese C Technology shows the front panel of the budget iPhone. It says there are small differences between theis leak and the iPhone 5, specifically mentioning the plastic build.
It’s still unclear whether this device, whether the iPhone 5C or iPhone Light, will be available worldwide, or if it will be an Asia-only exclusive aimed at developing markets, as suggested by several sources. Rumour has it that Apple fears a worldwide release of a cheaper device would see sales of its premium devices plummet, which in turn could decimate its profits.
In China, 80 per cent of all smartphones sold retail for under $200 (£132), so if Apple is able to keep costs down while offering high-end tech, it’s sure to make its mark on the Asian markets over the course of the next year.
