LG is reportedly working on the LG Vu 3, the third iteration of its phablet-format mobile device.
Notably, the handset appears to drop the Optimus branding just as LG said it would with the rest of its devices following the launch of the LG G2 flagship earlier in August. The latest Vu phablet will keep the slightly squarish 4:3 aspect ratio with a larger 5.2-inch display and a 1280x960 pixel resolution.
There’ll be something substantial in the engine bay too, as the report, which emerged via Asia Economic, suggests a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 quad-core processor with LTE-Advanced 4G capabilities. It’ll run Android 4.3 Jelly Bean from the off and the back panel will house a 13-megapixel primary camera.
So far, LG’s previous Vu devices have only sold well in Korea and Asia, but then, the company has consistently been very late to hit other markets with the device. However, as well as stepping up its game on the hardware front with the LG G2 and now the LG Vu 3, the company also appears to be taking the international market far more seriously. LG launched the LG G2 internationally from an event in New York.
According to reports, the LG Vu 3 will be launched in September, which probably means we’re looking at the IFA 2013 conference in Berlin, Germany. That event officially starts on September 6, but a number of manufacturers are pegged to launch devices at their own events in the days running up to the kick-off.
Samsung is launching the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 at a Samsung Unpacked event on September 4, while Sony is launching the Sony Honami on the same day. HTC is also thought to be bringing the HTC One Max in the days prior to IFA 2013.
