Yet more Sony Xperia Z1 pictures leak online

Another batch of pictures has leaked online showing the Sony Xperia Z1 ahead of its launch at IFA 2013 on September 4.

This time the images are from China’s Telecommunication Equipment Certification Centre, the organisation which licenses devices for use on China’s mobile networks.

The snapshots show what we’ve seen before of the handset. It’s a lot like the Xperia Z in size and overall shape, though it appears to be generally a bit thicker and chunkier.

This is believed to be because of the enlarged 3,000mAh battery pack, improved waterproofing and possibly the 20-megapixel Exmor RS camera hardware with Sony’s G-lens and BIONZ image processor. It may also feature optical image stabilisation but this is still unknown.

The bezel is also wider than we’ve seen on Sony’s other recent flagships.

Despite this, the Xperia Z1 is still a good looking device and as per rumours Sony appears to have made the rather sensible decision to swap the Xperia Z and Xperia Z Ultra’s smudge-prone glass back panel out with a polycarbonate one.

The certification doesn’t reveal anything about the handset’s specs, but aside from those already mentioned above the Xperia Z1 is rumoured to have a 5-inch Triluminos display with a full HD 1080p resolution and Sony’s X-Reality Engine (an improvement on the Sony Mobile Bravia Engine 2). It’ll also boast a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 quad-core processor, 16GB of onboard storage and a microSD slot for card expansion.

IFA 2013 and Sony’s big launch in Germany is only a matter of days away now. We aim to have plenty of information for you when all is revealed next week.
