The rumoured Nokia Bandit phablet may have a far more sensible if less entertaining name on release with sources tipping that it’ll be called the Nokia Lumia 1520.
The word comes from reliable Twitterer @evleaks, who claims the 6-inch 1080p-displayed quad-core beast will not be named after our favourite muscle car driving rogue after all.
Nokia Bandit = Lumia 1520

While the phone not actually being called the ‘Bandit’ is a bit of a shame, it’s not entirely surprising, as Nokia always labels its Windows Phone devices under the Lumia brand and with a number designation.
What’s less certain is the specific number designation. There hasn’t been a Lumia 15xx series phone so far, the highest we’ve gone is the Lumia 1020 with Nokia’s latest 41-megapixel PureView camera phone. But, then again, there hasn’t been a Nokia phablet so far either, nor indeed has there been a Windows Phone phablet more generally.
The Lumia 1520 is thought to be the first of several though, with word circulating of a Lumia 825 phablet with a slightly smaller display at 720p. It’ll still have a quad-core chip, but is thought to be a more mid-range offering than the Lumia 1520, which is shaping up to be a premium-grade model.
So far this year all of Nokia’s Lumia handsets have had number designations ending with either ‘20’ or ‘25’, while several of 2012’s range ended in ‘10’. With Nokia’s recent flagships being the Lumia 920, 925 and 1020 there’s little room to manoeuvre, it’s going to have to be a higher figure – Nokia Lumia 1025 perhaps? For now we’ll go with @evleaks tip but we’ll be watching to see how this unfolds.
Nokia is rumoured to be planning a launch in September which could see the Lumia 1520, Lumia 825 and a Windows RT tablet, now dubbed ‘Sirius’, all being announced at the same time. Nokia also has an event scheduled for August 28 in Moscow, Russia.
