Nvidia is said to be working on a 7-inch tablet powered by its latest Tegra 4 quad-core chipset and now we can see some indication of what it’s capable of thanks to its AnTuTu benchmark results cropping up online.
It’s not clear whether the so-called Tegra Tab 7 Premium is Nvidia making its own bid for the tablet space or if the device is being developed in co-operation with the chip-maker on somebody else’s behalf (another Google Nexus?).
It’s also possible that it’s simply a reference tablet to demonstrate the Tegra 4’s ability, or some other kind of experimental prototype. Leaked images show the device has some Tegra Tab branding on the back.
The benchmark shows the slate running on Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean at 1.8GHz, chalking up a score of 27,643. That’s impressive as AnTuTu results go and a good deal faster than the just shy of 20,000 score that Google’s latest Asus-made Nexus 7 2013 edition achieved.
According to TechKiddy’s sources, the tablet will feature stylus input support, probably using the Tegra 4 stylus capabilities Nvidia demonstrated not too long ago.
It’ll also have microUSB and microHDMI ports, a 5-megapixel camera, a 7-inch display with a 1280x736 pixel resolution and some kind of card slot – thought to be either a SIM tray or microSD slot.
Apparently, despite having the ‘Premium’ label this is actually not the higher-end version of this device, according to PhoneArena. Allegedly a higher-specced model is also in the works - perhaps this one will have a 1080p display?
In the end it’s difficult to draw any conclusions from this other than the fact the Tegra 4 chip itself is shaping up to be a bit of a badass.
