Sony has started issuing teaser pictures of the Xperia Z1 Honami ahead of its official launch on September 4 in Berlin, Germany, a few days prior to the IFA 2013 conference.
The pictures were Tweeted on Sony’s official Twitter account with the hashtag #bestofSony, a hint at the fact that this is the first smartphone as part of company’s ‘One Sony’ branding with specialist hardware sourced from across its product ranges. That means the display tech comes from Sony TVs, the audio from Sony’s legacy as a hi-fi and Walkman maker and camera tech from its range of digital snappers.
The first picture shows Sony’s now iconic round silver power button, which has appeared on several of its recent smartphone and tablet devices. The caption reads ‘It’s the smartphone everyone’s been talking about...not long now.’
The second snap refers to the water and dust proofing Sony has now put on each of its recent flagship devices with the caption ‘About to make a splash’ with an image of what appears to be the Xperia Z1 Honami being dropped into water.
We can see the panelled detailing along the edges, the round power button and volume rocker, and a 3.5mm headphone jack at the top. The jack has very little space around it suggesting this is another wafer-thin phone from Sony, probably somewhere around 6mm thick.
Rumours say the Sony Xperia Z1 Honami, an Android Jelly Bean handset, will feature a 20-megapixel Exmor RS camera using Sony’s aspheric G-Lens technology, a BIONZ dedicated imaging processor and both Xenon and LED flashes.
It’ll carry a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 quad-core processor with 2GB of RAM while the display is a 5-inch Triluminos panel with Sony’s X-Reality Engine for richer, more natural colour. It sports a 1920x1080 pixel full HD resolution.
Leaked promotional shots imply that like earlier flagships it will come in black, white and purple colour variants.
