Leaked benchmarks suggest the HTC One Max will pack a Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 chip

Leaked pictures and benchmarks have all but confirmed the display size and processor details of the forthcoming HTC One Max phablet, strongly suggesting it will have a 5.9-inch touchscreen and Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 600 quad-core chip.

The photos, which appeared on Chinese social network Weibo, show the HTC One Max alongside the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 and Samsung Galaxy Note 3 and next to these two, which have 5.5-inch and 5.7-inch displays respectively, it’s a touch larger which chimes very well with the rumour that HTC’s larger handset would sport a 5.9-inch screen.

The pictures show that the HTC One Max has a removable back cover, unlike its smaller cousins, but this appears to be for access to the SIM slot as the battery (rumoured at 3,300mAh) is a sealed unit and not removable.

Meanwhile, the benchmark results are shown running in AnTuTu, where it chalked up a slightly higher score than the HTC One's 26,238 with a bump up to 26,417, strongly suggesting the same chip is being used and, as we already know, the HTC One uses a Qualcomm 600 quad-core at 1.7GHz with 2GB of RAM and an Adreno 320 graphics processing unit (GPU).

The rumour mill has been somewhat turbulent in the last few months on the subject of the HTC One Max. Initially it was thought it would have similar innards to the HTC One, but then some rumours suggested it would be even more powerful with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 chip. Then the wind changed again and there was talk of it being a cheaper, mid-range model despite its larger form factor, possibly with a similar setup to the HTC One Mini.

Now things appear to have gone full circle and we’re in the position where it looks like the HTC One Max will indeed be a larger version of the HTC One, internal hardware and all, although the evidence this time is a little more solid.

The HTC One Max’s launch date remains a mystery, it was previously thought to be showing up at IFA 2013 but that didn’t occur. There has since been some talk of an October announcement.
