You can test a product in-house as much as you like but the cold hard truth is that consumers will always figure out a way to break your product, often with amusing and entertaining results. That’s something it appears Apple is discovering as a batch of videos have hit Youtube showing users unlocking their iPhone 5S handsets in a variety of strange and unexpected ways.
It started off all cute with Techcrunch unlocking an iPhone 5S using a (very compliant) cat’s paw and someone else quickly followed suit showing it works just as well with your canine chum.
And of course, if TouchID will recognise a human finger, the next logical step is a toe, so there’s a vid of someone playing footsie with their iPhone 5S too.
Perhaps the most bizarre so far though comes from Japan, where a chap figured out you can use your nipples to unlock your iPhone 5S. It takes a bit of doing, with this guy pressing the iPhone 5S to his chest for a good few minutes before it works, suckling it like some kind of weird robotic baby, but lo and behold with a bit of persistence you too can have a nipple-based iPhone.
It’s not the first time we’ve seen this sort of thing. Famously, Google’s Android face unlocking feature was quickly duped by showing it a photo of someone’s face. Likewise, when Apple first introduced Siri some users played Apple’s advert dialogue, the Samuel L Jackson ad, back to an iPhone which failed to recognise any of the commands.
