LG has officially taken the wraps off its LG G Pad 8.3 tablet ahead of its showcase at IFA 2013 in Berlin, Germany. The company says the device will hit retail in Europe by the end of 2013.
LG’s G Pad 8.3 has leaked quite a bit recently but some key specs, in particular the processor, remained a mystery.
Some were expecting a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 chip as the company has promised this processor will make its way into every ‘G’ branded smartphone, however, it seems this doesn’t apply to the tablet arm as the LG G Pad 8.3 packs a Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 chip instead.
It’ll carry 2GB of RAM and we expect an Adreno 320 graphics processor (GPU) as this is a standard part of the SoC, while the clockspeed is 1.7GHz. There’s 16GB of storage onboard and the slate crams a 4,600mAh battery pack into its svelte 8.3mm frame.
As well as a powerful processor, the LG G Pad 8.3 will carry an 8.3-inch display with a 1920x1200 pixel ‘true HD’ WUXGA resolution at 273 pixels-per-inch.
The device will run Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean and will apparently utilise a similar UI LG debuted on the LG G2 smartphone but seemingly optimised for the tablet display. This includes things like ‘QSlide’, a three-finger swipe gesture on any full-screen app to minimise it and designed to make multitasking a bit more fluid. There’s also KnockON, letting you turn the tablet on or off with a double tap of the screen.
Rather than follow Samsung and Asus with a call and text enabled tablet, LG is introducing something called QPair, allowing you to sync the LG G Pad 8.3 with your smartphone (and it doesn’t have to be an LG one, apparently) to offer ‘true convergence’ so that ‘every call and message recived on a smartphone will appear on the G Pad.’ Sound clever.
