A screenshot said to have been taken on the Nokia Lumia 1520 phablet has appeared online showing the sheer number of Live Tile shortcut-cum-widgets users will be able to cram into its 6-inch display.
The image comes via reputable Twitter-base leak source @evleaks, so there’s good reason to believe it’s the real deal. It also matches up fairly well in terms of layout with the leaked photo we saw previously of the Lumia 1520, which showed the display powered on and an additional column of Live Tiles.
That means the Lumia 1520 will support three columns of regular-size Live Tiles, or one large double-width tile and one regular tile, or six small tiles. Or indeed, any combination of the above. According to some reports there’s a 50 per cent boost to the maximum number apps you can fit on the homescreen.
All of this is enabled by the full HD 1080p display, which in turn is possible because the Lumia 1520 will be one of the first Windows Phones running the GDR3 update. As well as unlocking 1080p display support, this update also heralds the arrival of quad-core processors and the Lumia 1520 is understood to be rocking something suitably beastly, with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 being rumoured.
Other leaks and rumours suggest a polycarbonate bodyshell, support for a wireless charging back cover and some manner of PureView branded camera with a 20-megapixel sensor.
Rumours also say Nokia will be launching the Lumia 1520 towards the end of September, alongside other devices, at a big event in New York. It’s possible this screenshot may be an official snap which has leaked, as notably one of the apps shows a location as ‘Brooklyn’.
