Nokia has officially announced that its October 22 event previously teased is indeed taking place in Abu Dhabi and it will be one of the company’s “Nokia World” events. Meanwhile, sources indicate Nokia will unwrap as many as six new devices at the event, of which at least two will be Lumia branded.
The details of how many devices will be on show come via The Verge’s sources “familiar with Nokia’s roadmap,” which also revealed a new line of accessories including something described as “pretty special”. Intriguing and exciting stuff.
The most obvious candidate for one of these devices is Nokia’s much-rumoured Lumia 1520, a 6-inch full HD 1080p phablet, running Windows GDR3 and powered by a quad-core processor – it’s thought this could be a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800.
Another potential reveal would be the Nokia Lumia 2520, previously codenamed Sirius, which is Nokia’s 10.1-inch Windows RT tablet, again thought to be Qualcomm powered and with a high-resolution display.
One device which could make an appearance everyone else seems to have forgotten about – the rumoured Nokia Lumia 825, which is said to be another phablet, though not as premium as the 1520. Leaked details have suggested it will have a quad-core chip, though probably something a bit more low key than the Snapdragon 800, and a 5.2-inch 720p touchscreen.
We could also see one or more of Nokia’s low-end Asha devices being announced, but largely the whole thing remains very much a mystery. It’ll certainly be interesting to see what emerges out of Abu Dhabi later in October. Stay tuned for more as we get it.
