The Sony Xperia Z1 smartphone will be available via UK network EE and customers will be able to get a free Sony Smartwatch 2 as part of the deal, according to leaked marketing material.
An official-looking brochure page showing the promotion has leaked via XperiaBlog. With the slogan ‘It’s time’, the offer says you can pre-order the Sony Xperia Z1 and ‘get the Sony Smartwatch 2 for free.’
There aren’t any details about specific tariff deals and there’s no further information about the Sony Xperia Z1 or Sony Smartwatch 2 devices, but it’s known that the Sony Smartwatch 2 will be able to link up to smartphones via Bluetooth and relay calls, messages, emails and music remotely.
There probably isn’t long to wait before EE unveils more info about the deal though, because the Sony Xperia Z1 is due to be unveiled on September 4, ie: tomorrow at time of writing. It’s being showcased at an event prior to IFA 2013 in Berlin, Germany and will go head-to-head with Samsung’s Galaxy Note 3 and Galaxy Gear Smartwatch launching on the same day.
The Sony Xperia Z1 is rumoured to have a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 quad-core processor clocked at around 2.2GHz-2.3GHz with 2GB of RAM and an Adreno 330 graphics processing unit (GPU), plus a 5-inch Triluminos display with Sony’s X-Reality Engine and a full HD 1080p resolution.
The battery is a 3,100mAh unit and the device is shock, dust and water proof, while being water resistant up to a depth of one metre. Build materials include carbon fibre and Dragontrail reinforced glass while the bodyshell is 8.3mm thick.
There’s full 4G LTE connectivity plus an infrared blaster, MHL TV-out, NFC and dual stereo speakers.
Meanwhile, the camera is a 20.7-megapixel Exmor RS sensor with an f/2.3 aperture and Sony aspheric G-lens, plus 4K Ultra HD video capture and BIONZ dedicated imaging processor.
Storage is said to be 16GB with microSD support for cards and the handset runs Android Jelly Bean with Sony’s UI on top.
