Today marks the last day of the 34th America’s Cup (@americascup), an international sailing race that, this year, took place between the USA and New Zealand.

Originally founded in England in 1851, the America’s Cup now shifts venues with each challenge. This year, the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron and the Emirates Team New Zealand challenged the defending champion Golden Gate Yacht Club and the Oracle Team USA (@oracleteamusa). The two crews have played out a series of first-to-nine races in the San Francisco Bay over the past weeks, manning their wing-sail catamarans at speeds in excess of twice the given wind speed. Though the last races take place today, New Zealand has established a clear lead and is expected to emerge as the 2013 champion.
