HTC’s Peter Chou Downgrades His Daily Duties To Focus On Smartphones

If you have been following technology news lately, you will have heard that Taiwanese smartphone manufacturer, HTC, has been taking a beating lately. After recording its first quarterly loss since becoming a publicly traded company, HTC has been trying to find ways to kick-start its revenue and get back in the black. Signs are still grim despite HTC releasing its long overdue phablet, the HTC One Max, to rather uninspiring reviews, culminating in rumours that Lenovo was looking to acquire the smartphone company.

Most of the blame for the company’s turmoil, whether fairly or unfairly, is naturally being heaped upon HTC’s CEO, Peter Chou. Through all of this, though, Chou has stood tall, even getting commendations from the HTC board to remain as CEO. However, in a report by The Financial Times, Chou has announced that he will be relinquishing some of his daily duties to Cher Wang, HTC’s other founder, and focussing more on smartphones.

Whether this is a sneaky way of accepting responsibility, or a genuine refocussing to save the company, this does actually seem to bode well for HTC as this may be a return to the company that previously flourished with Chou at the helm.
