Google Music for iOS –– it’s coming

Google will launch a native Google Music app for iPhone in November, reports suggest

Spotify. iTunes Match. Last FM. Pandora. When it comes to music services on Android and iOS you’re pretty much spoilt for choice. And if you’re an iPhone user you’re about to get another option: Google Music.

Multiple sources have now confirmed that Google will release a native version of its Google Music application inside Apple’s App Store later this month. Both @evleaks and Engadget are now reporting that a launch is imminent, meaning Apple is now likely testing the app ahead of a full-scale release.

Google Music is a bit like Spotify, just with a twist. The service itself is free, allowing you to upload some 20,000 tracks to the cloud. Pay a monthly fee of £9.99, however, and you can stream tracks and albums direct from Google’s extensive back catalogue.

“Google is said to be including the same custom radio and smart recommendation features found in the Android app,” reports Engadget. “The company had previously closed the door on iOS users because Flash was needed to enforce DRM restrictions set by music labels. Now, Google appears to have overcome that issue and is nearly ready to launch.”
