BlackBerry has reportedly begun a charm offensive to get Android software developers onboard

A number of reports are suggesting BlackBerry is preparing to launch a new firmware upgrade which will allow Android apps to run natively on BB10 OS smartphones. Smartphones including the Z10 and Z30 would be included in the update.

The news comes from Good e-Reader, which claims BlackBerry spent CES on a "charm offensive" (offensively charming or charmingly offensive?) to get top-tier Android software development companies onboard with the idea.

According to Good e-Reader, “At least four different game development companies at Pepcom and CES” confirmed “that they have been approached by Blackberry to include their productivity and gaming apps into Blackberry World.”

It’s also reported the update will allow users to install Android apps files directly on their phone. To kick it all off BlackBerry will be offering apps for direct download in the app store.

There's no word on the when the new firmware 10.3 update will be coming but some are claiming it is basically all done. BlackBerry is said to be just sitting on the project until it has over 10,000 apps to launch with. Certainly, it makes sense to launch a fuller and more worthwhile library before starting a costly marketing campaign.
