EE is building Channel Tunnel support for its 4G service with an aim to be up and running in 2014

Soon, 4G will be going deeper underground as it'll be available in the Channel Tunnel railway line between the UK and France. EE is working on its 4G network and launch Channel Tunnel support by the summer of 2014.

The aim to allow commuters and holiday-goers superfast internet on the 35 minute journey from the UK to France. EE said, “The time underground can be spent online preparing for meetings, checking emails, planning travel routes, researching a holiday destination or watching streamed movies.”

Over 20 million people travel through the Channel Tunnel every year. EE is also launching 2G and 3G services in the North Running Tunnel in March this year.

EE chief technology officer, Fotis Karonis said, “We’re proud to offer customers a superfast 4G service when they’re travelling from the UK into Europe. It’s another technology first for EE, and it’s one that will make a big difference to business workers and people going away on holiday."

"Being connected is such an important part of travelling now and this will be another route we’ve covered with 4G, making a huge difference to millions of customers who can now make the most of their journey time.”

EE announced it had reached 2 million 4G subscribers earlier this week. EE also launched UK 4G roaming for US tourtists in the UK who are with network provider AT&T back home in the States.
