Motorola has begun issuing invitations to a launch event taking place in London on January 14. The company has not indicated what device is being launched, describing it only as a “new addition to the European Motorola family of products.”
That particular phrasing has led some to understandably speculate that Motorola could be introducing the Moto X to the European market as per earlier rumours. Those earlier rumours suggested that the Moto X could become available in the European market but it wouldn’t have anywhere near the level of customisation US consumers can access, if any. In the US, although the Moto X is available via the “Moto Maker” store where you can customise the phone’s appearance, it’s also available as a standard model through other retail outlets with only a few colour and finish options – it’s this setup which could be coming to Europe. As the event is taking place in London, it’s pretty clear that whatever it is will be available in the UK.
Alternatively, could we see another premium phone design following the Moto G? Or perhaps a tablet to replace the Motorola Xoom range? We could even dare to dream that Motorola might bite the bullet and have some manufacturing plan for the European market just as it does in the states, with a fully fledged Moto X launch complete with varied customisation, but if we’re honest this doesn’t seem very likely.
All we can really say for certain is that whatever the device is, it’ll be based on Android, because, you know...Google.
Still, we won’t have long to find out, as the launch is next Tuesday. KYM will be in attendance to bring you all the juicy details as it happens. Stay tuned.
